Let’s talk …..superfoods for the aging skin

I’m all for ‘graceful aging’, ‘my wrinkles mean I’ve lived and laughed’, ‘mature look’, ‘my wrinkles give my face a character’. Having said that, I also appreciate that we are what we eat and what we eat soon enough catches up with us. So, why not take care of our health and skin?

Some of my favourite foods, ones which I found have done good to me are the below

1. Almonds

Almonds are rich in vitamin E and are great for the skin. They are also rich in omega 3 that supports brain, heart and joints health. Eat 10 almonds a day as a snack or in your meals.

2. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is wonderful for the skin; it’s very helpful with very dry skin, wrinkles, and smoothing out your skin tone. You can cook with it or add 1 teaspoon in your smoothies.

3. Avocado

Avocados are full of omega 3 and vitamin E oil. Add it in your food, smoothies, use it as a base to your sweets. Or make a homemade mask!

4. Bell Peppers

All bell peppers are full of vitamin C, which is essential when you have very dry skin, and they also help with collagen production.

5. Spinach

Full of vitamin E, vitamin C and beta carotene – ‘spinach’ is great for slowing the aging process for skin. You can use it in your salads, smoothies, or cooking in general.

6. Chia Seeds

They are full of omega 3, protein and fiber. Chia seeds are also helpful with inflammation. I use chia seeds in my smoothies, snacks, oatmeal or I make chia puddings.

7. Berries

Berries are rich in antioxidant and reduce inflammation and slower aging. I can eat them as a snack, add them in my smoothies, oatmeal, chia puddings!

8. Dark Chocolate

Surprise! Dark chocolate is actually good for your skin. It helps keep the skin hydrated, and protects skin from sun damage.

  1. Tomatoes

The lycopene and Vitamin C in tomatoes can brighten up your skin and rebuild environmental damage in the skin, thus erasing wrinkles.

  1. Cucumbers

Including cucumbers in your diet can create clear, radiant, glowing skin, as well as boost your skin’s production of collagen, plumping out wrinkles and promoting elasticity.

  1. Carrots

Beta carotene can keep skin supple and youthful and also protect the skin from the dangers and aging effects of sun exposure.

  1. Lemons

Squeezing a little lemon juice into your water can detox and cleanse your liver, which optimizes its efficiency at detoxifying your body. A clean liver means clean, healthy skin!

And don’t forget to drink lots of water while you’re at it. Keeping your body hydrated and maintaining body fluid levels is key to a youthful appearance.
